INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING
BMD'S SERPENTINE BELT
PULLEY SYSTEM

Make sure you have received the following:
1) Generator Pulley
2) Crank Pulley
3) Belt Adjusters Assembly
4) Two 8mm Studs
5) Napa Serpentine Belt
Before starting, for safety, remove battery
cable. Next remove the generator pulley nut and washer. Remove
pulley half, then remove belt. Remove pulley half from generator
using a gear puller if you have to. Next remove the crank pulley
bolt and washer. Use gear puller to pull the crank pulley off. At
this time, remove the two nuts holding the fuel pump on, remove
fuel pump. Remove the nearest two nuts from the generator stand.
Remove the two studs.
Now you are ready to install your BMD pulley
system. Be sure all areas are clean so pulley system will fit
properly. Install the two 8mm studs at the base of the generator
stand. Disassemble the Base from the Slider of the Belt Adjuster
Assembly. Mount the Base over the two studs you just installed.
Replace washer and nuts and tighten. You can now reinstall the
fuel pump. Install the new crank pulley. If pulley does not go on
by hand, you may use a rubber mallet or something soft that will
not damage the pulley. Replace pulley washer and bolt (tighten to
33ft. lbs). Now install the new generator pulley. Install with
flat face of pulley toward the generator. (Note: on some Bosch alternators there is a casting nub
that has to be removed or the alternator pulley will rub.)
Replace nut (tighten to 33ft lbs). Reassemble the Slider to the
Base, but leave button head bolt loose. Next install the belt.
The roller on the Slider goes on the outside of the belt. Slide
the Slider adjuster to the right to tighten the belt. There
should be about 3/8" play when belt is right. Reconnect the
battery and you are all set to go.
For Sand Seal applications, 1/8" spacers
and seal are needed. Installation is the same except when pulleys
are off, install spacers and insert the seal into the case.
